One of the most critical aspects of running a business is the impact of having high energy.

Today I bring another highlight from my ongoing raw and real series over on my LinkedIn [where I keep my followers up to date on all the latest news and strategies that the best agents are using].

I had the pleasure of speaking to Peter Camphin, Head of Growth at StoreLocal Australia. Peter said “Leadership is all about energy”. Walking into the office in the morning with high energy is infectious, as it has a huge impact on your team + how they play a part in where you’re taking the business. You can hear more in the video below.

transcript from dean and peter’s conversation

Dean:

Hey, everyone, it’s Dean. I’ve got Peter Camphin. Now, he said, it’s all about high energy!

Peter:
It is. It is.

Dean:

What do you mean? What’s going on?

Peter:

It is about high energy. Look, leadership and running teams requires a high level of enthusiasm and a high level of energy. You’re spinning a lot of plates. You’ve got a lot going on. The way that you come into the office in the morning and the way that you behave throughout the day sets the scene. And sad sacks don’t run great teams because the enthusiasm needs to be infectious, you need to be on your game, because if you want to motivate people to be part of where you’re taking this business, you need to have high energy. And I’ve often said, look, it is a young person’s game. It’s a young man and a woman’s game, running teams.

Dean:

Right. Young at heart.

Peter:

Young at heart. And there are a lot of, what are they called? Go boomers?

Dean:

Yeah.

Peter:

Or boomers that are out there running great businesses. I hope I’m one of them. But the thing is that you must maintain that high energy, and look, some of those guys who are senior in our businesses in this industry have more energy than some of the 23- and 24-year-olds I see running around because they love it, they’ve got a desire to be able to develop people’s careers and get the very best out of those that they bring into their business. And that requires high energy, so you must have high energy to be successful in this.

Dean:

Go forth! Cheers.
