Placing a focus on culture and core values has a ripple effect throughout a company, impacting each aspect of the business and helping ensure you stand out from the crowd.

Today I bring another highlight from my ongoing raw and real series over on my LinkedIn [where I keep my followers up to date on all the latest news and strategies that the best agents are using].

I had the pleasure of speaking to Damian Hackett, the CEO at Place real estate agency. Damian mentioned to me they had a “Place way”, and how culture and core values have helped shape how the company operates, whether that be how each ad is written, how each deal is being executed, or any other aspect of Place’s processes.

This focus on their culture and core values has ultimately helped Place thrive, and led them where they are today. You can hear more about the Place way below.

transcript from dean and damian’s conversation

Dean:

Hi, everyone, it’s Dean. Got Damian with me. He said, “This is the Place way.” What does that one mean?

Damian:

So, Dean, it’s like to have a successful organisation, you need to have a strong culture. In simple ways, culture is, ‘this is the way that we do things around here.’ Again, having a strong purpose, having an understanding of ‘what are we doing every day?’ Then having some core values. We’ve got four-

Dean:

Four.

Damian:

… really strong core values.

Dean:

What were those core values? One of them was-

Damian:

So, it’s respect. It’s respect for your clients-

Dean:

And humble.

Damian:

… and humility around your clients and your opposition, everyone you deal with.

Dean:

Yep.

Damian:

Innovation’s key for us. We’re always innovating. We say, “If you’re not innovating, if you’re standing still, you’re going backwards.”

Dean:

Backwards, yeah.

Damian:

So, we’re always looking at a way of doing things better. Community is so important, because a lot of our success is due to the communities that we live in. We see it very important that we get involved at the grassroots level in our communities, whether it’s the schools or sporting organisations or local councils, et cetera. And excellence. Excellence is key. We think, if you’re going to spend a lot of your time doing something like what we do that, that you might as well put in the extra effort and be excellent at it.

Dean:

Yeah. So hence, those were the four things of what is the Place way?

Damian:

Yeah, yeah. Like I said, it’s easy to have a culture that says, “This is how we do things.” That’s really, particularly with the way that we operate with the professional services back end, so we are involved in every deal that happens, every lease that’s signed.

Dean:

So, the quality and the consistency.

Damian:

We are heavily involved. It’s very different to a lot of other organisations. There’s a way that everything’s done, from the way every ad’s written, et cetera. That’s the Place Way.

Dean:

There you go. Cheers.
